Vince, Sam, Jake, Nick, Jon, and Harley
At the cave, whilst awaiting the arrival of the team, occupied myself with some gardening – trimming back brambles to allow more space for spoil disposal, and bundling up bags ready for refilling later. Jake and Sam arrived, soon followed by Nick, Jon, and Harley. A brief discussion ensued on who was doing what today.
It had been established that Jake was digging today so he set off towards CoW, quickly followed by Nick, Harley was on the ledge hauling spoil from the dig, Jon was shuttling the spoil across the ledge to Sam at the bottom of the entrance. After digging last weekend, I was on the surface today.
The morning began at a sedate pace for just a short time before the rate of flow of spoil increased – a steady supply of filled bags and rocks arrived on the surface. All was fine until it started to rain, the hauling rope got wet and slippery making it very difficult to grip, especially the heavier loads! Plunging the rope into a bucket of water to wash off the ingrained mud improved the situation. When a suitable pile of bags and rocks had amassed, Sam came up to the surface to help with emptying. Many rocks were added to the wall extension thereby creating space into which the bags could be relieved of their contents. And so, the morning progressed.
Todays total = 66 bags filled, hauled, and emptied and a substantial quantity of rocks added to the wall extension. The diggers (Nick and Jake) reported an intriguing [small] hole had appeared below the southern calcite-layered bank. It will be interesting to find out if this develops further over the coming sessions. Time for the pub!
