Arrived ahead of the team to check that Wednesday’s chemically-induced ‘rock bothering’ had achieved the desired effect.
Into the cave, reeled in the wires and inspected the damage. As expected, the use of 40g had produced lots of gravel-, cobble- and small boulder-sized fragments of rock at both locations. Sam arrived in Can of Worms, and we decided to fill a few bags with bang debris until Nick and Tav arrived to take over. Sam and I moved along to the ledge. Sam managed to ‘drop’ some large boulders that appeared to be rather precariously perched above the pot. Unfortunately, on the way down the lower stemples were bent and might require replacing. However, there are now some ‘convenient’ rock steps!
By now the team had arrived and spoil was being hauled out to the surface. Mike took our guest for a tour of the finer parts of the cave.
Most of the clearance effort took place in CoW but some debris was moved from the pot when the flow of spoil from CoW slowed. At the end of the session, 69 bags had been filled, hauled, and emptied with an undetermined quantity of rocks hauled out and added to the spoil heap wall. Both locations will benefit from another application of ‘induced-rapid speleogenesis’, IRS.
